Tips for starting an outdoor building project

You will learn what to expect when building this project yourself. All of Jake’s kits are perfect for installers or DIYers. You don’t need any special skills or tools. All the pieces you need are included in your kit. There is no cutting or mortaring the blocks. You simply stack and glue the block together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a concrete slab?

Not necessarily. While a concrete pad is the most common foundation, our kits are designed to work on any stable, non-shifting surface. You can install them on pavers, a reinforced deck, or a compacted crushed stone base (aggregate). The most important factor is that the surface is perfectly level. You cannot build directly on top of grass, dirt, or loose gravel.

How do the modules connect?

The Unity System relies on gravity and high-strength landscape block adhesive. The interlocking design aligns the stones perfectly without the need for mortar. Once glued, the bond is permanent and stronger than the stone itself.

Do I need to cut the stone?

No. The system is fully modular. We have designed the Corner, Grill, and Cabinet modules to fit together in 12-inch increments without any cutting required. However, if you have a unique obstruction (like a support post or downspout), the stone can be easily modified using a standard angle grinder with a diamond blade.

How are the kits shipped?

Because of their weight, our kitchen kits ship on pallets via freight carrier. The delivery truck will have a “liftgate” to lower the pallets to the ground at the end of your driveway (Curbside Delivery). We recommend having a friend help you unstack the pallets and move the individual blocks to your patio area.
