DIY Outdoor Kitchen Bar Build

Unity L Corner Bar Module Walkthrough

The Unity L proves that high-end masonry doesn’t require a week of labor. In this walkthrough, Terry demonstrates how the modular “L” configuration provides professional-grade entertaining space complete with a fridge, sink, and raised bar seating. All this while remaining accessible for a one-day DIY assembly.

The Unity L is the social hub of the Cornerstone System. This L-shaped module provides seating for four adults and integrates full masonry strength with premium limestone surfaces. Designed for versatility, it can function as a standalone corner bar or serve as the structural anchor for a complete wraparound outdoor kitchen.

Pro Tip:

The Spacer Block Removal: Use extra blocks as temporary spacers to ensure your first course is perfectly square. To remove them without disturbing the build, slide the inner “diagonal” block inward first. This creates the clearance to pull the rest out without shifting your permanent masonry.

High-End Entertaining Without the Masonry Crew

The Unity L Corner Bar is designed to bridge the gap between a basic grill station and a full-service outdoor entertainment hub. By utilizing the Cornerstone System, you can achieve a wraparound bar with 2-inch-thick limestone countertops and integrated appliances in a fraction of the time required for traditional stone-and-mortar construction.

Precision Engineering: The Inner Box Method

One of the unique aspects of the Unity L is the internal fridge and plumbing cavity. Terry walks through the “inner box” layout strategy—starting with the internal structural walls to ensure the appliance fitment is perfect before expanding to the outer footrest and bar walls.

  • The Straight Edge Technique: Don’t rely on sight alone. Using a level as a straight edge ensures your long bar runs are perfectly aligned.

  • Hide the Imperfections: Terry shows how to orient chipped blocks toward the interior “void” spaces where they are structurally sound but completely invisible in the finished build.

  • Dry-Fit Countertops: We demonstrate the “Knuckle Allowance” method—dry-fitting your slabs to plan your mortar depth and protect your fingers during the final set.

Modular Flexibility

While the Unity L is a standalone powerhouse, it is engineered to match the height and depth of our fireplaces and grill modules. This allows you to grow your backyard setup over time, knowing every piece of the Cornerstone System will index perfectly with the next.
