Product Overview

Project Duration: Weekend

Do you live in an urban area or have a small backyard or patio? The Ashford small outdoor fireplace is our most compact design. Although this fireplace features a small footprint, it is still a BIG backyard upgrade. This small fireplace kit can handle full-size logs and outdoor wood-burning fires despite its space-saving size. You don’t have to settle for a chimenea or be jealous of people with large sprawling patios. Now you can have a proper masonry wood-fired outdoor fireplace in a small space. This wood-burning fireplace kit is smaller than our other DIY outdoor kits. It still includes everything you need to enjoy relaxing around the fire. Please be aware that YOU CAN NOT UPGRADE TO WOOD BOXES LATER. Wood boxes are integrated into the Ashford fireplace to help keep its footprint small. You can only add wood boxes at the time of purchase.  Though over 95% of people determine their options at their initial purchase, you can upgrade your Ashford fireplace with wing walls later, as they are not integrated into the fireplace structure.

Is the Ashford Small Fireplace for Tiny Patios Right for Your Space?

The Ashford Small Fireplace is designed for patios and courtyards where space is limited but the desire for a real, built-in fireplace isn’t. Its proportions are intentionally compact, allowing it to sit comfortably in tighter layouts without feeling temporary or out of scale. It reads as architecture, not an accessory.

In daily use, the Ashford becomes a natural gathering point. The firebox provides meaningful warmth, the masonry mass holds heat, and the overall form gives the space a sense of permanence that smaller fire features simply don’t. It’s the kind of fireplace that gets used on ordinary evenings, not just special occasions.

Homeowners who choose the Ashford tend to appreciate that it feels settled and complete from day one. It doesn’t dominate the patio, but it anchors it—adding warmth, structure, and a lasting sense that the space was designed with intention rather than filled later.

Customize Your Ashford Small Fireplace for Tiny Patios

Add chimney height, wood storage, built-in seating, or gas-burning convenience to create a fireplace that better fits your space and how you plan to use it. All accessories work with every Cornerstone fireplace model and can be selected in the configurator when you order your kit.

We recommend including your accessories with the original fireplace purchase. Accessories ordered later require a special order and typically cost more because of separate material preparation, handling, and shipping.

Chimney Extensions

Increase the height of your fireplace to better complement your home, pavilion, or surrounding architecture. Chimney extensions are supplied in 24-inch sections and can be adjusted in 4-inch increments, up to 48 inches of additional height.

Deluxe Wood Storage

Deluxe Wood Storage

Keep firewood close to the hearth while giving your fireplace a wider, more substantial built-in appearance. Add one wood storage box for an asymmetrical layout or a pair for a balanced fireplace design.

Estate Wing Walls

Estate Wing Walls

Extend your fireplace into the surrounding patio with coordinated seat walls and piers. Wing walls help define the gathering area, create additional seating, and provide convenient surfaces for drinks, plates, or décor.

Common Questions About This Kit

Yes. The firebox and chimney system is designed specifically for wood-burning use and adheres to proven masonry fireplace principles when installed per the instructions. Each kit includes a firebrick-lined firebox, a deep hearth, and a stainless-steel spark arrestor to support safe, controlled wood fires.

These fireplaces are built from structural masonry units, not surface veneer. The stone is part of the structure itself, not a decorative layer applied over framing.

No. The system is designed for no-cut assembly using standard tools. The masonry components stack and bond together without sawing or specialized masonry equipment.

Yes. The kits are designed for homeowners to assemble using clear instructions, dimensions, and planning resources available before and after purchase.

Outdoor fireplace kits can be installed on patios, slabs, or properly prepared bases. Placement depends on site conditions, clearances, and local codes.

Your fireplace should be installed on a proper footing or an existing patio that can support the weight of a masonry structure.Yes. Like all masonry-style structures, your fireplace requires a stable foundation. Many installations use an existing concrete slab. Many people use a crushed aggregate (paver) base, while others may require a small footing depending on soil conditions and local requirements.

Yes. The modular system allows for layout adjustments and optional components so the fireplace can be tailored to your space and design goals. While most kits feature the same size firebox, we do offer two-sided and compact firebox kits to ensure you get the size fireplace your home needs. Wood storage boxes, chimney extensions and more are available for all our fireplace kits.

When installed properly, these fireplaces are built to last for decades. The masonry construction is designed for long-term outdoor use with minimal maintenance.

For many homeowners, yes. An outdoor fireplace often becomes a long-term focal point for gathering, warmth, and everyday use. Compared to a fire pit, a masonry fireplace provides more directed heat, wind protection, and a more permanent presence within the outdoor living space.
